Mumbai News Live Updates (November 8): Smog conditions continued to prevail in parts of Mumbai. Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Solapur and Sangli areas received unseasonal rains today. People in the financial capital has been reeling under deteriorating air quality during the recent days. Death by Breath series published by The Indian Express brought to light how the Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation’s lackadaisical approach led to decline of air quality in the city and nearby areas.

The BJP in Maharashtra is set to implement the ‘Namo 11-point programme’ across the state, in a move to strengthen their grip at the grassroot level ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The programme includes 11 socio-economic welfare schemes that aim to empower women, farmers, unorganised labourers, with emphasis on infrastructure and development.

Meanwhile, after The Indian Express highlighted the shortage of staff at cyber crime helpline desk, the police force is set to double the number of staff in the desk next week. The department has decided to increase the number of staffers to 22 from the current 11, who work in two shifts.
